"Retirement -- Are You Ready?"

Lecture #1 will be presented again in Spring of 2010

Thinking a lot about retirement these days?

You are not alone. Nearly 78 million Baby Boomers, individuals born between 1946-1964, are on track to leave the workforce over the next twenty-two years. That is a huge number of people. The question everyone should be asking themselves is, “How does one successfully make the transition into retirement?

According to Alan Greenspan, former head of the Federal Reserve Board, the economics of retirement are quite straightforward: “...enough resources must be set aside over a lifetime of work to fund consumption during retirement.” But retirement is not just about economics. Here are five simple questions that need to be asked about retirement. If you can answer them fully and accurately, you are ready.

 Question #1: What is retirement?

Question #2: How long can you expect to live?

Question #3: What are your obligations?

Question #4: What are you going to do for the next twenty years?

Question #5: What resources will you need?

This lecture will pose each question and suggest things you might consider carefully before answering. The lecture will also present the latest research on Baby Boomer retirement, including a new model many Boomers are implementing across the country.

Patrick Davis, MSW  Director and Founder of the Institute for Applied Critical Thinking (iACT) will lead the lecture and guest speakers will present their unique perspectives. Immediately following the lecture a complimentary wine-tasting will be hosted by San Diego wineries. A range of hors d’oeuvre that complement the evening’s wine selections will be served and hosted by local caterers. (Alternative, non-alcoholic beverage will also be provided.)
