Patrick H. Davis, MSW
Lecturer

The Institute for Applied Critical Thinking, (iACT) is an educational organization helping adults learn to think more clearly about the events that influence their lives.  We offer instruction and opportunities to examine life challenges, explore various transitions and develop applicable skills, techniques and tools to live purposefully.

Lectures:

The Baby Boomer Lecture Series was developed to offer the public at large an opportunity to examine epic events that are changing the American way of life.  By exploring the largest and possibly the most prominent generation in American history, we can begin to understand how Baby Boomers (circa. 1946 -1964) can influence public policy, political action, retirement, aging, and other late-life considerations.  Boomers are entering their 6th decade and are becoming the Silver Tsunami.  These lectures explore the impact they will have on all Americans in the 21st Century.

Workshops:

A hallmark of success is the ability to re-invent one’s self, remain viable and productive in an ever-changing, fast-paced world.  One effective way Baby Boomers are working to improve their success is by attending our workshops. The Institute for Applied Critical Thinking, (iACT) offers a number of workshops designed to heighten your awareness of Boomer events, challenges and transitions;  are pertinent to current late-life issues; promote deeper critical thinking and offer specific tools and techniques that will allow for better navigation through turbulent life challenges.

Workshops are generally four-hour sessions broken up into 90 minute blocks, offered in the evenings and week-ends, for convenience.  The focus is on personalizing the tools and techniques so they are functional for each attendee and easy to implement in a ‘real’ world environment.

Focus Groups:

In America many companies, non-profits, and government agencies are facing a number of new challenges not anticipated two decades ago.  They are faced with the confusion of four generations in the workforce and the ensuing ‘brain drain’ as Baby Boomer begin refocusing their efforts on reinventing retirement.  The loss in productivity and the slow migration of highly-valued employees leaving the workplace is likely to intensify the potential of changing the way America does business in the future. Focus Groups are established to support employers, Human Resource professionals and employees in recognizing the value of a multi-generational workforce and develop organizational processes to re-invent and maximize the transfer of brain-trust while preparing the next generation of worker.

Focused groups are generally set up as two to four 2-hour work sessions with a one- to two-week break in between to complete assignments. These assignments are geared to assist attendees in collecting data and information from their work environment they can then use to develop, implement, monitor and manage solutions to generational workplace challenges.

Conferences:

Patrick H. Davis, MSW, as Director and Founder of iACT, appears as a speaker at many different conferences where late-life adult transitions are a general theme.  Mr. Davis addressed attendees at the 2010 California Parks & Recreation Society’s Spring Conference on the three timely topics: "Baby Boomers: Rethinking Growing Old," Hiring and Retaining Older Workers - Your Most Valuable Untapped Resources."  and "How to Attract the Next Generation - 'Boomerizing Parks & Recreation."

Speaking Engagements:
